I’m Maggie Bria, and I suppose you could call me an amateur historian of sorts. Earning my bachelor’s in History at the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill in 2014, I originally planned to go on and get my PhD in the field but changed my mind in my final undergraduate year; in a crazy twist of fate, I ended up on an extremely different route, getting a master’s in Information Science and even working for NASA for a bit. This blog links my crazy mix of passions together in a study of rare, exciting, and troubling bits of history.

I am a Christian, and a North Carolinian by birth. I married a Tar Heel-convert in 2016, and we live near Pensacola, Florida, with our two little girls. When I’m not writing, I’m cooking something from America’s Test Kitchen or reading something from my Goodreads list.

In addition to some academic publications, I have also written for one of my favorite blogs, Messy Nessy Chic. Read my articles on a Muslim princess who fought off Nazis, some glam 1920s beachwear, and American jazz diplomacy during the Cold War.
